Karen Pickering MBE, the former Olympic freestyle swimmer, answered some questions for The Book Base about her reading habits and favourite books.

What were your favourite books as a child?

Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne (I re-read it as an adult and found it so funny and clever!)

What’s the best book you’ve read in the last twelve months?

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Who are your favourite authors?

Jodi Piccoult, Khaled Hosseini and James Patterson

When and where do you do most of your reading?

In bed.

Approximately, how many books do you read in a year?

10 – 12

Which book has influenced you the most?

Greg Lemond: Incredible Comeback by Samuel Abt. A very inspirational story which helped me through tough times as an athlete.

What are you reading at the moment?

Bomb Hunters by Sean Rayment
