Book Blogger Q&A: Your Move, Dickens

Darlyn from Your Move, Dickens answered some questions for The Book Base, becoming the seventh book blogger to contribute to our Q&A series.

How long have you been a book blogger?

I’ve been a blogger for about five months, and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

Approximately, how many books do you read every year?

Around 80-90. I graduated from college recently, so I hope to increase that number.

What were your favourite books as a child?

The Harry Potter series, hands down.

What are you reading at the moment?

Ian McEwan’s Atonement – it’s heartbreaking.

What’s the best book you’ve read in the last twelve months?

This is such a tough question, since I’ve read a ton of great books. If I really had to pick one, though, it would be The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It really touched me on a personal level.

Who are your three favourite authors?

J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen and F. Scott Fitzgerald. They don’t really have anything in common, except they’re all amazing writers.

What’s your favourite book about books?

I haven’t really read that many books about books, but does The Book Thief count? LOL.

Which book has influenced you the most?

I really have to choose the entire Harry Potter series. I read the first book when I was about eight or nine. I turned twenty last month, and they’re still my favorite books of all time.

What advice would you give to new bloggers?

Wow, this is a tough question… This sounds cliche, but my advice is to have fun. Eventually, the pressure to get more comments and hits might get to you, but, if you’re enjoying yourself, they don’t really matter.

Which other book blogs would you recommend?

I’ve come across so many amazing blogs, but, since I’m a classics blogger, I’m going to highlight other classics bloggers. A Literary Odyssey and A Room of One’s Own are both awesome blogs, and they make classics – even the mind-bendingly hard writers like Faulkner and Woolf – accessible.

  1. Aw, thanks for the shout-out, Darlyn. I would have said the very same about your blog. xo 🙂

And, I agree: just have fun. It’s not about the blog. It’s about the books.
