Sammee from I Want To Read That kindly agreed to answer some questions for The Book Base about her favourite books.
Here are her responses:
How long have you been a blogger?
I’ve been blogging since August 2009, so just under two years.
Approximately, how many books do you read every year?
I read around 100 books in a year but I wish I had time to read more. I think I’m going to set myself the challenge to read 150 next year.
What were your favourite books as a child?
As a child I was addicted to Enid Blyton books, especially her Magic Faraway Tree series! As a teen I loved Judy Blume, Paula Danziger and (embarrassingly) Sweet Dream romances. I couldn’t get enough of those! I also discovered and fell in love with Christopher Pike’s books.
What are you reading at the moment?
At the moment I am reading Dear Zoe by Philip Beard. I have the feeling it’s going to make me cry.
If you had to pick one, what’s the best book you’ve read in the last twelve months?
Lol! I couldn’t pick my Top 10 Favourite Reads for 2010 so I don’t think I’m going to manage just one! Books that I’ve read recently that I have loved include:
Rockoholic by CJ Skuse – I loved this – it’s nice and quirky with characters that are spot on!
Delirium by Lauren Oliver – I loved Before I Fall when I read it last year but I adored this one. I’m addicted to her writing style.
Entangled by Cat Clarke – I can’t believe this is a debut because it is seriously brilliant. I started it at 9am and didn’t move until I’d finished.
You Against Me by Jenny Downham – Just major awesome! I didn’t want to stop reading.
Long Lankin by Lindsey Barraclough – Completely different from anything else I’ve read recently. I loved it!
But believe me when I say I could go on forever – there are so many great books at the moment!
Who are your three favourite authors?
Again it’s really hard to limit myself to three!
Meg Cabot is an author who I love and buy whatever she writes.
Jenny Downham has floored me with how brilliant both Before I Die and You Against Me are – I can’t wait to read what she writes next.
Judy Blume and Christopher Pike are favourites from when I was younger. I love Jennifer Echols, Rachel Vincent, Richelle Mead, Suzanne Collins, Simone Elkeles, Courtney Summers – yep I could go on.
Which book has had the greatest impact on your life?
Great question! I think I’d choose Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret by Judy Blume. It was given to me by my sister while I was at my grandparent’s house. I think I was 10 or 11 years old and it was the first time I realised how amazing books could be. Until then I had loved reading but it had never captured me in the way this book did. I was transfixed by it – utterly absorbed by the characters and story – it’s a feeling I’ve never forgotten. It’s probably responsible for my current book obsession!
Which book are you most eagerly anticipating?
What am I not eagerly anticipating? Honestly, there are sooo many! My pre-orders are completely out of control but I really do want to read them all! Love Story by Jennifer Echols, Possession by Elana Johnson, Hourglass by Myra McEntire, Juliette Immortal by Stacey Jay and The Beginning of After by Jennifer Castle are among the many!
What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Enjoy it! Simple but it’s easy to lose sight of why you wanted to do it in the first place.
Which other book blogs do you recommend?
Wondrous Reads definitely. Jenny’s ace and I check her site out every day. The Story Siren too. Both were blogs I used to visit before I became a blogger myself. Since then I have discovered so many great blogs – probably too many to list here but you can find them all listed under favourite blogs on my sidebar!
