Today’s Book Blogger Q&A (number 43) features not just one, but four book bloggers! All of the We Heart YA girls (Stephanie, Ingrid, Sarah and Kristan) were kind enough to answer some questions about their reading habits and favourite.
Here are their responses:
How long have you been a blogger?
Stephanie and Ingrid are relatively new to the blogging world, but Sarah started her blog in 2008, and Kristan has been blogging since she was nine years old.
Approximately, how many books do you read every year?
Most of us try to at least read a book a week, so we guess that makes it 52 or so.
What were your favourite books as a child?
Stephanie: Anne of Green Gables and The Chronicles of Narnia
Ingrid: Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. (I also loved Anne of Green Gables)
Sarah: Anne of Green Gables, The Chronicles of Prydain, The Secret Garden, Little Women, Wait Till Helen Comes, Bridge to Terabithia
Kristan: Anne of Green Gables
What are you reading at the moment?
Life, Love and a Polar Bear Tattoo by Heather Wardell, Chime by Franny Billingsley, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, and Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn.
If you had to pick one, what’s the best book you’ve read in the last twelve months?
As a group, we were all blown away by Gayle Forman’s If I Stay and Jandy Nelson’s The Sky Is Everywhere.
Who are your three favourite authors?
As a group, we love Robin McKinley, Stephanie Perkins, and Gayle Forman.
Which book has had the greatest impact on your life?
Stephanie: The Chronicles of Narnia
Ingrid: Whoa, that’s hard. So many books have impacted me in a variety of ways. I guess reading S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders affected me most because when I realized she’d written it at age 16, it inspired me to finish my first novel by the same age.
Sarah: Collected Poems of Robert Frost
Kristan: Anne of Green Gables
Which books are you most eagerly anticipating?
We’re really looking forward to the sequel to Pegasus by Robin McKinley, Crossed by Ally Condie, and The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson.
Which book character is most like you?
Stephanie: Fanny Price
Ingrid: Princess Sylvi from Pegasus
Sarah: Ronald Weasley
Kristan: Hermione Granger
If you had to invite some book characters round for dinner, who would you choose and why?
Severus Snape because he’s one of our all-time favorite characters, Ebon because he’s awesome and… well, we’ve never met a Pegasus :), and Olive Kitteridge because she manages to get herself involved in everything in town. She’d be good for gossip.
What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Be genuine with your voice and content, and make it personal. Post regularly. Pick a day or days and stick with your plan. Connect with the blogging community by commenting on other blogs.
Which other book blogs do you recommend?
We’re still getting to know a lot of blogs, but so far these are a few highlights that represent the variety of the YA blogosphere:
