Sylvester McCoy, the seventh Doctor in the Doctor Who TV show, and the actor lined-up to play Radagast in Peter Jackson’s forthcoming movie version of The Hobbit, answered some questions about his reading habits for The Book Base.

The War for Civilisation by Robert Fisk

Who are your favourite authors?

I don’t have favourites. My tastes are eclectic.

When and where do you do most of your reading?

Everywhere and all of the time, but preferably in my favourite armchair.

Are you a fan of electronic books on the Kindle or iPad, or do you prefer the paper variety?

I haven’t caught up with electronic books yet, but I have to say that I love the feel and the look of a book. It becomes a precious possession and I have a great many of them.

Which book has influenced you most?

Probably the last one read.

What are you reading at the moment?

Michael and Natasha by Rosemary and Donald Crawford.
